Welcome to the Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan website and thank you for visiting.

"The need [for legal services for low income individuals] is everywhere. It's urban. It's rural. It's old. It's young. It's every race. It's women. It's kids. It's straights. It's gays. It's people with mental health problems. It's people with development disabilities. Anywhere you look, you find that need."
(Befort & Janus in Law & Inequality: A Journal of Theory & Practice, 13 Law & Ineq. 1 (1994))

Lawyers hold a unique place within the justice system as members of a self-regulating profession and are a vital link to ensuring that those of limited means are not excluded from accessing justice.

Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan's mandate is to promote access to justice in Saskatchewan by creating, facilitating and promoting opportunities for lawyers to provide high-quality pro bono services to persons of limited means. Individuals who are able to afford legal services are not eligible for PBLS programs. All Saskatchewan lawyers are encouraged to refer potential pro bono clients to PBLS programs and volunteer with PBLS so that pro bono services can be delivered in an efficient, effective and fair manner to indigent individuals throughout the province of Saskatchewan.

There are a number of ways to get involved, including opportunities for private practitioners, in-house counsel, public sector lawyers, students-at-law, law students and retired lawyers.
